Citizens in Kasenda suffer Bilharziasis due to lack of safe water

Local citizens in Kasenda Sub County, Kabarole district are increasingly suffering from Bilharziasis due to lack of any functioning clean and safe water facility in the Sub County. “All people in the Sub County use crater lakes water which is unhealthy and infected with Bilharzia.” Said Matsiko Nicholas, the mobiliser of Kasenda Youth Forum.

While appearing on the Listeners Forum live radio discussion, at Better FM on Sunday, 1st September 2013, Matsiko appealed to the local leaders to repair the wells to ensure access to clean and safe water for the local citizens, “Most people are suffering from Bilharziasis. HEWASA constructed wells but they are no longer working. We are requesting political leaders to assist us and repair the wells.”

Local citizens also appealed to the local leaders to improve health service delivery in the Sub County, “Kasenda Sub County has only one Health Centre III, which is not enough for a big population. People from other sub counties like Rwimi, Ruteete and Kibiito also use the centre.” Said Byamukama Damiano.

The participants on the live radio discussion also requested local leaders to improve service delivery in education, agriculture and roads. “The NAADS sector is still lacking, we request the Sub County leadership to improve it because it’s only benefiting the rich. They should also improve on the seeds distributed.” Said Twebaze Francis.

The program was moderated by Mukonyezi Wilfred allowed local citizens to participate in the discussions through call-ins and SMS.
